Concealed fix

Solar Mounting for Klip-Lok and Concealed-Fix Metal Roofs

Mount solar panels on compatible concealed-fix metal roofs using clamps matched to the roof profile. Lumax supplies components and a standard landscape kit for Klip-Lok and Saflok, with documented mounting routes for Springlok, Craft-lock, Novotexi440 and standing-seam roofs, to EPCs, installers and distributors.

How it works

Mounting Without Penetrating the Sheet

The clamp grips the roof profile without penetrating the sheet. Identify the exact profile first, then select the rail arrangement and panel orientation that suit your layout.

“Non-penetrating” refers to the clamp only. The roof sheet, its existing fixings and the supporting structure still carry the load.

Mounting Routes by Profile

Landscape short-rail clamp on a Klip-Lok roof rib
Short-rail clamp on Klip-Lok

Klip-Lok and Saflok

Klip-Lok 700 and Saflok 700 mounting includes landscape short-rail clamps and flat-top interfaces for full-rail arrangements. Short rails are available in double-bolt and single-bolt versions. The flat-top clamps for full rails also suit Saflok 410 and GRS Klip-Tite.

Tilted mounting can run along or against the ribs. Base rails are not needed when the tilt runs along the ribs and are strongly recommended when it runs against them.

Imported anodised and locally made tumbled-finish versions are available. The roof profile, module layout and selected interface determine the complete arrangement. Do not use these clamps on Springlok roofs; Springlok has its own clamp.

Springlok

Springlok 700 supports landscape short-rail mounting. The same roof bracket can also support portrait and landscape tilted arrangements.

Tilt can run along or against the roof ribs. Base rails are not needed when the tilt runs along the ribs and are strongly recommended when it runs against them. A full-rail arrangement is not offered on Springlok. Send the roof profile, panel layout and site location when requesting selection assistance.

Craft-lock

Craft-lock uses a profile-specific sheet clamp. A short-rail converter turns the clamp into a landscape short-rail connection.

Full-rail arrangements are documented, with the rail connection selected to suit the module layout. Tilted mounting is available along or against the ribs, and base rails are not needed on Craft-lock in either direction.

Standing Seam

Standing-seam mounting uses clamps selected for the seam profile. The broad-compatibility clamp suits Brownbuilt, Diamondek, Zip-Tek, Rheinzink, Kalzip and Newlok. A lower-cost clamp is available for Brownbuilt and Diamondek.

Full-rail arrangements are available, and a short-rail converter can be used with the lower-cost clamp. Tilt can run along or against the ribs on narrow, bulbous and square-top seams. Base rails are not needed when the tilt runs along the ribs and are strongly recommended when it runs against them.

Send the roof manufacturer and profile information, with a clear photograph of the seam, if you need assistance selecting the clamp and mounting arrangement.

Novotexi440

For Novotexi440, Lumax strongly recommends portrait mounting on full rails. Landscape short-rail mounting is possible but is not the recommended route.

Lumax supplies two clamp options for Novotexi440: a Lumax roof clamp, or Macsteel’s Novotexi clamp with a Lumax adapter. The choice is the customer’s. Customers must confirm the proposed mounting arrangement with Macsteel before purchase.

Lumax advises against installing full rails along the roof ribs. Consult Lumax about the rail arrangement and any additional bracing required. Tilted mounting is possible but not recommended; where it is used, base rails are strongly recommended in either direction.

  • Landscape short rails possible

  • Tilt possible, not recommended

Rail Arrangements, Tilt and Roof Condition Checks

Short Rails, Full Rails and Tilted Arrangements

Where short rails, full rails and tilted mounting apply on concealed-fix roofs.

Key point: Base rails are strongly recommended when tilt runs against the ribs, except on Craft-lock. On Novotexi440, tilt is not recommended; where it is used, base rails are strongly recommended in either direction.

Landscape short-rail arrangements provide local module attachment points on compatible profiles. Full rails connect to the roof through the appropriate interface and are selected around the module dimensions, orientation and clamping zones. Choosing a clamp does not on its own settle the orientation or rail option.

On Klip-Lok, Saflok, Springlok and standing-seam roofs, tilt can run along or against the ribs. Base rails are not needed along the ribs and are strongly recommended against them. Craft-lock does not need base rails in either direction. On Novotexi440, tilt is possible but not recommended, with base rails strongly recommended in either direction.

A wind assessment is strongly recommended for tilted systems, and site location is required for tilted-structure enquiries. The selected arrangement must follow the applicable installation requirements.

Roof Condition and Coastal Material Selection

Roof suitability, roof warranty and coastal finish choices to check before ordering.

Key point: A clamp that avoids sheet penetration does not automatically preserve a roof warranty.

The EPC must assess the suitability of the roof sheet, its existing fixings and the supporting structure, and follow the roof supplier’s requirements. A clamp that avoids sheet penetration does not automatically preserve a roof warranty.

Lumax’s limited warranty requires aluminium products near the coast to be anodised and maintained to a cleaning schedule. Anodised and tumbled options are not interchangeable for every environment. Tell us about coastal exposure when selecting components.

Rails are mill finish as standard, with anodising available on request.

Questions

Concealed-Fix Mounting Questions

Will one concealed-fix clamp fit every roof profile?

No. Klip-Lok, Springlok, Craft-lock, Novotexi440 and standing-seam profiles have different attachment geometries. Select the clamp for the actual profile, rather than its general appearance.

Can I mount panels in portrait and landscape?

Options depend on the roof profile and complete mounting arrangement. Klip-Lok and Saflok short-rail kits are landscape. Craft-lock has documented landscape short-rail and full-rail routes. Springlok supports landscape short rails and both portrait and landscape tilt. For Novotexi440, Lumax strongly recommends portrait full-rail mounting.

Can standing-seam roofs be tilted?

Yes, along or against the ribs. Base rails are not needed along the ribs and are strongly recommended against them. Send the roof manufacturer, profile and a clear photograph of the seam for clamp selection.

Can panels be tilted on Novotexi440?

Tilt is possible but not recommended. Where it is used, base rails are strongly recommended in either direction. Lumax strongly recommends portrait full-rail mounting for Novotexi440.

Which clamp should I use on Novotexi440?

Lumax supplies two options: a Lumax roof clamp, or Macsteel’s Novotexi clamp with a Lumax adapter. Lumax supplies both, and the choice is the customer’s. Customers must confirm the proposed mounting arrangement with Macsteel before purchase.

Can I use a local bracket instead of an imported bracket?

Yes, where both are available for the application. Check the selected component’s dimensions, finish and installation requirements. Anodised and tumbled options are not interchangeable for every environment, so tell us about coastal exposure.
